search reveals numerous requests for doing this in previous versions. I haven't found anything about how to do it.

has this been implemented?

Outlook: Infos in the notes section are not actual

If I make a link to an Outlook contact or note, I can see in the notes section of PB some information of the Outlook element. If it is a contact I can the telefon number and so on, but now there is no further connection to Outook. When I change the number in Outlook, I now have the wrong number in PB. So I cant trust the Outlook information in PB. Not good!

command line parameters for .exe-thoughts

Hello everybody,
I may be missing something, but is there a possibility to assign command line parameters to attachments which are actually links to exe files? In my lectures I love to launch applications I talk about from within the brain, but some simply need options or other command line parameters.

Entering thought takes 20 seconds

When I enter a thought it can take up to 20 seconds for it to respond (complete).

problems selecting thought types with identical names

The setup:

I use several small groups of types that have the same name, such
that "Arrange Thoughts by Type" will group them together,
even though their appearance is different (see attached graphic).

The problem:

Even though each type has a GUID identifier, apparently the
thought type selection drop-downs are using the thought type
names, so often the wrong thought type is selected.

Oddly, I am usually able to get the thought type I want by trying
repeatedly and/or by trying the type dialog in the Properties tab
rather than the "big scrolling thought type dropdown" in the plex.

The fix:

Fix all thought selection dialogs to use each thought type's
GUID instead of its name.

I've had this problem a number of times now and as it's getting to be a real problem I thought I better report it.

When I select a thought type from "the big scrolling menu" in the plex (i.e. not in the Properties area), PersonalBrain sometimes hangs and has to be killed and re-started.

This happens most on my Vista copy of PersonalBrain (work brain). I thought it happened this morning on my Windows XP sp3 system (personal brain), but after a couple of minutes PersonalBrain (5.5.2.2) came back to life.

Is this a known problem? Is there a fix?

I should also note that I use multiple types with the same name (usually just two) to facilitate "sort by type" (as we're still waiting for sorting enhancements), and often PersonalBrain chooses the wrong thought type.

Allow Icons for Tags

I have lots of tags that I use for tracking thoughts. The text tag is nice for searching but it takes up too much space and is difficult for me to monitor visually. I would like to be able to attach an icon (like the type icon) to the tag and have that displayed where the text tag resides now. This way I can have 4 or five different tags, but they would not be so difficult to track.

An example that I would like to use is to track task progress. I could have a red task flag for a tag indicating the task is critical or behind, a green task indicating the task is on track etc.

Tags could include arrows. dollar icons, stars, etc. They could still be associated with text so they are searchable, but icons are so much easier to recognize that text--and I can put more of them on a thought.

Using PB on a mac and PC simultaneously

I use Windows at work and Leopard at home.
If I buy a Pro licence, can I store my brain in the cloud so that I use the same working file on each platform ? In other words, can PB access an online brain with all the editing features kept active ?
BrainEKP seems to provide such functionnalities. Is there a workaround for PB or do you plan it in the near future ?

Hello,

After several years of being intrigued by Personal Brain, I finally decided to buy it a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I did. It's a terrific application with very thoughtful (pardon the pun) details.

I do have a couple of suggestions. Depending upon where one is in a any particular Brain, the Plex could be better viewed horizontally or vertically. That is, it can be helpful to shift the position of the tools area from the lower part of the screen to the side and back again. It would be nice to have a toggle for this, as opposed to having to manually move the tools area. Clicking the toggle button (or typing the hot keys) would shift the tool area from one location to the other and back again. Am I making sense, and does anyone else think this would be helpful?

Second request/suggestion is that I think it would be helpful to be able to have a pop-up window of the notes editor, instead of having to access it through the tools area. What I mean is, with the Plex taking up the whole screen, I would like to be able to pop up the notes editor in a separate window for the selected thought. This would allow the Plex to have full screen real estate, but also make the notes accessible.

Thanks for considering these suggestions. I am enjoying using Personal Brain just as it is.

correct and transfer user dictionary

I need to correct misspelled words which went into the notes user dictionary. Where can I find the file to manually correct single entries?
I'm running PB pro 5.2.2 Windows, with German language und German PB interface on Windows XP, but the the only file wich is changing is the pblang_ja.properties, the Japanese property file (very strange for me).
I'm using PB on a Desktop and a Notebook. How can I use the same user dictionary file?

Revisiting Ye Olde Copy/Paste

Hi All,

Here is my latest project. I work in IT at my company and there are a TON of spreadsheets saved all over that contain very valuable information that I am now trying to consolidate into a PB. So, as I continue to build this out, I'm sure I'll seek all of you out for more helpful tips but for my #1 question right now:
What is the best way to copy/paste a large group of cells from .xls to PB as thoughts AND have PB check for duplicates AND if duplicates are found, allow me to ignore the dup but add the original as a child of a new parent. For example,
a. server type A is an existing parent thought
b. server A has two child thoughts: server 123 and server 456
c. I create a new parent thought called server type B
d. I import a block of .xls cells with a list of servers into PB(after first pasting into notebook and adding semi-colons) as children of server type B
e. Uh oh. looks like one of those new children that I imported is server 456 (which is already existing under server type A). But, I don't want this to be a duplicate thought but rather just have it linked as a child thought for both server type A and server type B.
My first attempt is incredibly ugly and painful so I am hoping there is a better way. What I did was look thru the list for dups and whenever I found one, I would forget the dup thought and then select the original and link it under the new parent type.

Thoughts??
