Constant low level CPU usage

I have the pro edition. I'm running on OS X 10.6.4. Activity monitor shows PersonalBrain consuming ~4.5% CPU constantly when in the background. I've disabled what I can think of or heard about - should folder as thoughts, active thought indicator, monitor clipboard. These options are all unchecked. Turning any of these back on seems to make no difference.

I run a number of other Java programs; Eclipse, Tomcat, SQuirrelSQL. None consume CPU when idle.

What task is PB performing and can I shut it off?

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

How to change the language?

Hi all

I have just recevied a new PC on which I reinstalled PB (Win XP SP2, PB 5.5.2.4, J-1.6.0_12).
As the new regional options are now French-Belgium (used to be English-UK), PB now displays everything in FR.

I could switch back to EN by renaming pblang.properties to blang_fr.properties, but I would prefer a more "official" way to choose the language, provided there is one.

Any clue on how to do this ?

Cheers

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Moving file out of brain locks information section

I am using PB 6.0.3.8

How to reproduce:

If you have an internal attachment, right click the attachment in the information area down below. Click Move File Out of Brain. Select the save directory. Forget the thought and no matter what thought you click after that, the information will be stuck in the thought attachments section.

I have to close PB and re-open to get it working again.

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Please fix search in Forums

It's been non-functional for a long time, and probably results in many duplicate posts. I really like to know if others are already discussing an issue before I raise it; I'm sure many PB users feel the same. So although it is not a PB bug, I thought I'd mention it here.

Warmly,

Joel

joeltrainsauthors.com

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Couple Section 508 issues

Hi,

I'm using Windows 7 32bit
PB Beta 6 latest build as of today.

As I've stated before I have bad eyes and require a dark bg and light text. I was hoping that in a future build that the calender, search window could possibly inherit the scheme defined. In my case black background and light text...or at least be configurable. Also there does not appear to be a way to change the hyperlink color to something lighter. Maybe I'm missing something, but I have updated to the beta 6 in hopes that some of these things would be fixed/addressed, but not yet. PB is such a great product, I would love it that much more if it could be more user friendly to those of us with visual disabilities.

Scott

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Non-breaking space (NBSP) in Note Tables

I was hoping that replacing an ordinary space between words in a Note table cell with a non-breaking space would prevent the phrase from being word-wrapped as the table column is compressed sideways (by narrowing the Note pane), but this does not seem to work. In the end I had to make the column a fixed width to prevent this from happening.

Is there any other solution to this?

PB 5.5.2.4 on Windows XP

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

When I converted my personal brain to PB 6 Beta I lost all tags in my brain, my tags tab has no tags whatsoever (luckily i backed up my brain, unluckily I added some more things since then )

One other note, since I don't have the full Pro PB 5, it says it can't use the pro edition on my brain... not sure if this might impact the bug

Version 6.0.3.7-b

Windows 7 Enterprise

Java version J-1.6.0_20

Let me know if more info is needed.

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

I installed PB in a PC where I don't run with admin privileges. Amazingly it installed. However, when I click a link, the page is not opened in the browser on Window XP Professional OS.

So, the simple question is: does PB run with user not having admin level?

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Problems with Indexing

@Support:
I have problems with Index/Search function. It seems to me as if files in internal folders are not indexed. How to reproduce:
1. create a new brain
2. create a thought and place a text file in an internal (sub) folder
3. run indexing
4. search for any string within the text file
When the file is placed not in an internal subfolder of the thougth, then everything is working fine.
... Perhaps this is not a bug - nevertheless: so far I found no information in regard to this problem.
Any ideas ???

Rainer

PB 5.5
Windows XP
Java 1.6.0_17

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Hi!

Recently switched computers from XP to Win7 and have noticed that PB hesitates for about 5 seconds when I switch to it from another window (another program) after not being used for a while (time length?). I know that this is kind of vague but was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thinkpad
Win7
2GB ram
PB 5.5.2.4
J-1.6.0_21
8,277 thoughts

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues

Forum sorting issue

When I do a search of this forum, the only sort order it lets me do is "Sort results by: Relevancy". This makes it impossible for me to sort results chronologically. All the other sort options return no results found. I particularly wanted to sort by "Thread start date" and "Last posting date". My other Search settings are "Find threads with at least 0 replies"and "Finds posts from Any date and newer", though I would like to limit results to past 2 weeks. Ascending or descending sort order doesn't seem to matter.

Can anyone else confirm this or suggest a fix?
Can't rebuild database

Since the XML file I created in 5.5 gets stuck importing into PB6, I thought it best to rebuild the database, but that process also gets stuck (on "getting entry 2914 of 9597")

Is there any chance of getting some support on this? I've been using PB for years, and bought several copies, but so far every time I've been invited to send my brain for trouble-shooting, there has been no further response at all. If there is a support dept, it seems to have a black hole in it somewhere

Forum: PersonalBrain Issues
