Hello. I'm having a strange problem with thought notes. For some reason, if I select the text in a note and try to change the font attributes, nothing happens. If I try it again, sometimes the change will take effect; sometimes not. Any idea what's happening here?

Hi.

This is an old problem, but there hasn't been any answer yet to have it fixed. Reading through the various posts concerning the notes editor I would guess that PB is trying to get the company from where they licensed the notes editor to fix things, but I haven't seen enything getting fixed so far .

Thanks. I read your earlier post and it describes the problem I'm having exactly. This is the first bug I've run into with the Brain and it's a pretty strange one considering how common text editors are these days. You'd think that a basic text editor would be simple to implement. Maybe they should give us the option of using a different editor like Notepad or Wordpad, though they have problems setting default fonts, I believe. The problem with the note editor is minor, but it's seriously annoying to have to screw around with fonts--very un-ergonomic. Also, I've never understood the thinking behind making a 10-point font the default in all these different applications. Ten-point is too small for normal work. Everybody ends up wanting to change it.

For what it's worth here's a reply I got from Tracy Barr of PB Support earlier this year on how to change the default font and size of text in Notes.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for contacting us. To change your default font in PersonalBrain Notes:

  • Open the Program Files\PersonalBrain\res folder.
  • Make a backup copy of NOTES.CSS called NOTES.CSS.BACKUP
  • Open the original NOTES.CSS file in NotePad.
  • While keeping the original formatting, change any of the following lines:
    • font-family: Arial;
    • font-size: 10pt;
    • background: #ffffff;
    • color: #000000;

Best regards,

Tracy Barr

This works fine for me. The only snag I've found applies if you are in the Beta program: Each time you install a new release the font snaps back to Arial as, presumably, the Notes.css file gets overwritten with a new version.

Regards,
Richard

You can save the notes.css to your PB database folder. It will apply the notes formatting to that specific brain and will not be overwritten when upgrading.

Thanks. I'd made the notes.css changes earlier, but didn't realize that the file had been overwritten during the last upgrade.

BTW, every time I post on the forum, I get the message "Error: Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off. Please turn it on" even though I have my browser (Firefox 3.01) set to accept session-only cookies. If I click the post button a second time, it goes through.
