Hello Folks,

I know it is BETA. but I was so happy that thebrain allows proxy use,
that I tried it. It doesn't work. I use the name of the proxy and the IP Adress.
Should I enter it with http://proxyname , or xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or is there something special to fill in?

I still get the answer, that I could not connect to server.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Also very excited if it supports proxies.  Since I started in V3 any thoughts created at work have to have the icons refreshed at home for them to appear, and of course you can't sync with web brain!!

I haven't tried it yet (so take this with a grain of salt), but either of the http or IP should work if you add the port number.  Most programs use something like http://proxyname:80 or IP:80

On a side note, if your proxy uses a domain & password authentication (also known as  NTLM auth) then for my corporate network at least, http://cntlm.sourceforge.net/ has worked really well.  You setup a salted password hash, then run as a service, and use a local proxy e.g. localhost:443 at it handles the domain and password.

Good luck, and really interested in the outcome!

zippo, Thank You for posting. Can you check your proxy settings in Internet Explorer under (Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings) then set the address and port to that which you have set in Internet Explorer.

Let us know if this works for you.

Thanks,
Moe

he folks,

no it doesn't work. The IE ist set to Automatic proxy config.
I've got the IP and the name of the proxy. My Admin told me that
is all I need.

So it entered the IP like this xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx   and than the port in the field port.

If that first login failed I'm not able to enter my login name in the configuration field user when PB7 is running. Bug or feature?

Cheers

Hello
Well I'm at work and was dying to see it working, hoping to connect to my TB7 brain file set up yesterday night at home, with synchronization made to webbrain.com.
Unfortunately, though filling in the two fields with the correct values (172.22.160.130 port 3128), it doesn't work. I tried with the defaullt (https) but also with plain http .
Any hints would be really appreciated !

EDIT : and yet I should mention that from work I still am able to connect through web access to webbrain.com, but so not from the login window at the start of TB7. (??)

From my workstation, I can ping http://www.google.com (209.85.148.106) and others, but I can't with webbbrain.com (75.101.129.179) ; and yet through Firefox, I can connect without problem. It's above my understanding I'm afraid. Firefox is set up with the proxy values I was mentioning earlier in my post.

Actually, with my navigator at https://webbrain.com, I can login normally but when I try to display an example brain (for instance Shelley's or any other), I just reach a blank page. Whereas if I navigate to http://webbrain.com (not s so !) they all work fine.
I tried of secured servers (my bank's...) and they work ok.

it is the same on my side. If I ping von DOS Level google.com it works.

If I ping webbrain.com or thebrain.com don't work.

Any Idea? I think there was an proxy issue here with PB6 with with muliple server adresses or something like that??????

Thank you all for this info.  Sorry that the new proxy options haven't worked for you quite yet, but we'll continue our work on this beta feature. Your feedback is very helpful. We'll share it with our engineers.

Thank you,
Matt

OK thanks Matt.
Are there any other TB7 beta testers that are able to connect to Webbrain through a proxy ?
I'd like to make sure the problem is on my side, not on the webbrain server or TB7 beta version.
TIA

hey
I installed the 7.0.07 and the login failed. ---> I could not
changed any settings, because the new version didn't start up again.
restart the PC and reinstallation. no effect.

I deinstalled teh 7.0.0.7 an installed the PB6

I hope TB7 will work without a webbrain connection,
because if not works with the proxy this could be a problem
for users like me.

cheers

Thanks all for testing.  We'll continue troubleshooting this issue.

ABDH13 - the new proxy options have resolved connectivity issues for many WebBrain users.  But we'll keep working to get you connected as well

Thanks,
Matt

Hello Matt

I really appreciate your help.
As for other users I imagine, this possibility of connecting to my hosted brain from home, on the move but also at work behind a proxy (as I work from all these different places) is critical for me.

So back at work this morning, I installed the latest version found in the beta section (7.0.0.7), full of hope as I've read Harlan stating that there was a fix about that ("The proxy settings are not used for HTTPS connections and at initial startup", which seemed to describe my problem). While doing that I checked that I can connect to my brain on https://webbrain.com, logging in though Firefox with the proxy settings I mentioned earlier, and it's OK.
But unfortunately, the result for me is the same as for Zippo : on the first run, I provided my connection information (user name and password), I got the answer that I wasn't recognized and couldn't proceed. I wasn't able to launch the application even using a local file, which I wanted to in order to set the proxy values in the options tab. And now when trying to launch again, it just hangs at the startup splash screen and I have to kill the process.

Fortunately, the net administrator of my workplace is willing to help and told me that there was no policy preventing me from installing & using TheBrain on my workstation. So it's just down to technicalities

The question that Zippo raises at the end of his post also crossed my mind : can we still work on a local version of our brain even if the internet connectivity is off for a while, for some reason, and synchronize afterwards ? Or will TB7 not launch ?

Again, thanks for your help

Arnaud

Well I'm wondering if I am not confronted to two different problems. The hanging splash screen at startup that I have, like Zippo, is reported by others with XP OS X : http://forums.thebrain.com/post/OSX-Lion-The-Brain-7beta-%287%29-does-not-start-5537921 and http://forums.thebrain.com/post/unable-to-start-theBrain-7.007-5539195

Arnaud, Sorry that you are experiencing difficulties with TheBrain 7. Since you are not able to launch TheBrain 7, lets first look at that problem. Can you launch TheBrain 7 then post a copy of your output.log file? That will help us to find why it is hanging on startup for you. We do not want speculate what the problem is without looking at the facts.

Thanks,
Moe

Sure, will do tomorrow morning, back at my workplace, as here at home it works great
And it may well be that the problem comes from our proxy configuration, not TB7 !
Thanks Moe
