When an image (PNG: btw, why JPEG are not used ?) is attached to a thought, when hovering on it, it takes about 3 to 4 seconds to build the thumbnail and display it.

It would be a good idea to build a thumbnail image index along the URLs index rebuild so display in the plex is done in a flash.

PNG format is used for pasted thought icons. If you have a JPG image attached, that will also be used automatically. The time it takes for the image to display depends on the size of the image itself. Unfortunately there is really no way around this without using up a lot of system memory. Because PB4 does dynamic scaling (zooming) of icons, a reasonably sized image needs to be saved and this takes memory.

That said, pasted thumbnails are scaled so they should be quickly loaded. For the image that is taking a long time to load, is is an attachment or a pasted thumbnail? How big is the file? Is is local? If it is on a URL or network drive, that will cause it to load more slowly...

1) The icon (with the thought) doesn't show if using JPG images
2) PNG images are around 2 MB 2000x1500 and are local

JPG files should work just the same as PNG files. For your particular file, it is normal for it to take a few seconds to display - loading and uncompressing a file of that size just takes time... If you want it to display faster, create a thumbnail by copying it as an image and then using the "Paste Thought Icon" command.

I confirm that no icon appears within the thought name if attaching JPG image. (b4075)

Please note the following limitations of attached images as thought icons: Image files larger than 256 KB will not be loaded until mouseover. Image files larger than 2 MB will not be loaded at all. The reason for these limitations is to preserve performance and limit memory usage.
