I used the comma trick to create a bunch of child thoughts. But when I am selecting their parent for some reason I'm seeing the full thought name, not the unique name suffix, e.g.

screenshot.pngSurely I shouldn't be seeing the "Thinkers 50, Rankings…" part of the names of all those child thoughts when I have their parent selected? It makes an absolute mess of the display.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Here's a couple more, I'm looking at the same thought but the sibs in one show the full thought name, in the other only the "short name". I don't understand why the difference:

Another data point. This time, a thought with no additional generations of children shown:
screenshot.pngonly the short-name is shown. Yet if I turn on the additional generation:

screenshot.pngNow it expands to show the full-name.

I am sure there must be some rationale at work here but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what it is…

Looks like a bug with expanded view. 😉

I think so, because here's a weird one:

screenshot.pngThat has both in the same set of children.

Perhaps while they're fixing that, they can ensure the children are ordered by the displayed name...

Where child thoughts already use the 'hidden name' trick, that could take precedence.

Re your last point, just to clarify, all those child thoughts (of the focused thought) were created at the same time (using the ; trick). In another thread I showed how I generated the whole string for the 50 of them to ensure the comma trick was applied properly.

Matt,

There is a setting to turn on/off the comma trick.  Please click on TheBrain > Preferences > Look & Feel tab.  Is the box checked for 'Context sensitive Thought Names'?

Very odd that you are getting different results while in expanded view...  I'm testing to replicate...

Thank you,
Matt

Matt,

Issue replicated.  Seems a bit sporadic, as you indicated.  We'll document for further review.  Thank you for posting!

That setting is checked.
