Zen is correct.  Most close buttons for pop up windows have been removed in v9 for a more streamlined interface.

Streamlining?

See for example
- the 'Brain Statistics' dialog
- the 'Manage Endpoints' dialog
- the 'Data Integretity Scan' dialog
(These are just three I found on a quick check in a single menu).
All these could be closed or dismissed without any harm by a single Esc or by clicking outside the window.
