Hi

Over the last two weeks i've noticed a significant performance drop in PB4, and significant is putting it mildly!

When doing instant searches, the list box hangs after 2-3 characters and can freeze PB4 for up to 30 seconds! Additionally when a thought is able to be activated it is quite possible that the screen will freeze for a minute or more before the plex is redrawn correctly.

So issues exist both with instant searches and plex redrawing.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled different versions (not 4.2x though), reindexed, wiped the entire disk, reformatted and replaced the full brain (150GB), defragmented, removed 3rd party indexing program, increased VMoptions to 512, cast spells and tried using bad language but no improvement.

It appears to be something to do with the indexing but am not clear what to try next. Perhaps after backing up I could delete some specific index files in my brain folder to have them reindex from scratch? Any other suggestions welcome with thanks.

Jim

I would upgrade to 4.2.1.2 , which has a new database backend. It seems stable to me.

Yes, if all else fails it may be time for me to take the plunge. I really am chickendung when it comes to commiting my main brain to a beta - no major stability issues now?

cheers

It should not be, it has been talk here about moving it into production soon. If you get trouble , there is an instruction how to revert to 4.1 from 4.2 here:

Looks like problem solved and had become a systems resources issue (http://forums.thebrain.com/tool/post/thebrain/vpost?id=2275139&pid=25785006#post25785006). Still didn't get to the cause (possibly a windows update changed something) but at least it's solved.

For those like me who hadn't noticed the Vista ReadyBoost option before - try it!

cheers
