Okay I have just had TheBrain hang.

What happened:

  1. I wanted to add a new thought for a person I was looking at in LinkedIn (in Chrome).
  2. I copied their name in Chrome and switched to TheBrain
  3. I pasted "
  4. Costas Papaikonomou"
  5. into the search box
  6. Nothing appeared in the search box
  7. I figured I had done something wrong so I switched back, copied again, switched back, pasted again. Still nothing in the search box.
  8. I did it a third time. This time it appeared. I clicked the lightning bolt.
  9. The thought appeared but with the text "Costas PapaikonomouCostas PapaikonomouCostas Papaikonomou".
  10. I doubled clicked the thought to try and edit the name.
  11. TheBrain hung (Application Not Responding after several minutes)
I then had to Force Quit the application.

It restarted okay and the new Thought is there but I am not sure if touching it again is going to lead to more problems and I am worried about the possibility of corrupting my brain database. I used "Utilities>Data Integrity Scan" and it reported no problems. Advice?

Given that I am syncing with Brain Cloud is there a way for me to revert brain state to a previously sync'd version?

I'm mailing the relevant info to support@.

Thanks.

Matt

Okay, taking a leap of faith (and a Brain Archive) I selected the thought. It's contents are:

"Costas Papaikonomou Costas Papaikonomou Costas Papaikonomou Costas Papaikonomou Costas Papaikonomou Costas Papaikonomou"

which is odd, maybe I pasted a couple more times because nothing was appearing in the search field and I thought perhaps I was hitting the wrong key.

But no hang this time.

I was able to edit the thought name and things seem fine.

I am a little worried though.

I do try to resist repeating instructions to the Brain when it seems non-responsive, since most of the time it eventually comes back and I find that the text is there several times, as happened to you.  It's so easy to assume "it must not have heard me," as opposed to "it's not paying attention, give it a second."  :-)

To my recollection the app wasn't non-responsive. What has happening was that the text was being pasted but not visible in the field.

Matt,

Thank you for sharing this user experience.  Clicking the lightning bolt icon creates a new, orphan Thought when the desired results are not found in your search results.  Odd that it showed up so many times in a row when you decided to create the new thought.  Also odd that the application hung when you tried to edit the Thought.  We'll take a closer look at the Output.log file you sent in.

Thank you,
Matt

Matt,

I followed up with the engineering team and it seems that your Output.log file was helpful for us in finding that "multi line input in the search box can lead to a crash"  We're continuing our review and hope to have a fix available soon.

Thanks again,
Matt
