Hi

This is just a cosmetic request but the niggle factor is rising

When adding a thought in 45xx, the entire collection of visible thoughts disappear and then reapear together with the new thought.

I would really prefer the normal behaviour where the new thought appears and the original thoughts shuffle round smoothly. The current behavior is just too distracting. Is it possilbe to revert this?

thanks

Jim

I have also experienced this, and I think is more that a cosmetic problem, it is very time consuming. When I am linking several thoughts, the screen will flash several times while doing it, which slows down everything. I would not think this is part of the intended design. I also experienced this condition in PB 4.5.07

Another issue I have encountered is that when going through  the indexing process the program will suddenly close without warning. This occurs randomly, about 2-3 times an hour. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Could be a memory problem. I am experiencing this by importing XML files. Currently using 1GB Memory assigned to PB VM, when using 550MB Memory, the indexing failed. Just a note, this XML contains approximately 42000 thoughts and 120000 links.

None of these two problems were present in any installation previous to PB 4.5.0.7 and I had about the same number of thoughts (about 6500) and about 32000 links. The only change in my system has been the installation of 4.5.0.7-8. I have 2 G RAM.

By default, PB VM only uses certain amount of memory no matter how much memory you might have on your system. On my machine, I have 4GB installed, I have to manually enable 1GB assigned to VM. See my other message on XML import for details on how to assign more memory to your VM.

Edit: BTW, it`s only an educated guess, with your number thoughts being not very large, I do suspect there is a memory management issue on PB`s part.

Actually, the visual issues have been present since we were first given Expanded view in version 4.0.

It only happens SOMETIMES. Although you can always force that behavior by messing with link types or colors. If you don't like it, change to normal mode and you shouldn't get that behavior at all--- except when changing link types or link colors.

Hi

I don't think this is a memory problem but a minor design issue. It even happens with a small brain of 200 thoughts.

For me it is becoming rather irritating since once i insert a thought i rapidly create links around it to existing thoughts. Waiting even for a second after hitting enter is just so not necessary. PBTeam, please confirm that this behaviour will be removed or optioned on the next release? Much appreciated.

thanks

Jim

I've had PB4508 simply shut down twice. The first time the recovery failed but restarting the computer returned normal operation. Second time the auto recovery seemed to work. As for stopping 2-3 times per hour not experienced that.

Is your Java the latest version?

Jim,

Thanks for your response. I am running J-1.6.0_05. I will run the latest version and test the result.

I am running the latest Java, J-1.6.0_05. PB closes after dragging and dropping I any type of attachment. This is frustrating!

I wonder if there is any link to the problem that Darkstar is experiencing? (http://forums.thebrain.com/tool/post/thebrain/vpost?id=2858521). No doubt support is working on a solution, hang in there.

Hello

I'd apprecaite a little feedback on this issue if possible.

I was trying out the insert outline feature on a list with about 160 thoughts which i edited in word, and paste as outline in PB4508.

In a test brain with one thought it worked great and was inserted in about 2 seconds.

In my main brain (41,000 thoughts) with each thought being inserted the entire thought structure has to run through its visualisation of disappearing and then reappearing. The thought i was inserting the outline under already has about 20 thoughts visible around it plus siblings.

Each new outline thought insertion is taking about 10 seconds so far because i suspect the CPU cycles have gone up with making the existing visible thoughts dispappear and reappear each time. This is clearly off-field and needs to be addressed rapidly.

This is a mounting irritation to put it mildly  so I really would like to know that this visualisation routine of all visible thoughts disappearing and reappearing will be removed or at least optioned on the next release.

Thanks

Jim

I also raised this issue in July and no response from TB. I don't know if it's worth posting these problems on this forum if there is no corrective action taken. I am reaching my limits.

As stated in another thread on this topic earlier, we are investigating this. However, the speed of pasting thoughts is not likely affected by the redraw of the UI as the architecture separates these processes. Pasting a large amount of thoughts is simply a lot of work and takes time.
