In PB 5.5.1.9,  just as in the previous version,  nothing happens on clicking Add Search Results To Selection.

Any reason known for this?

I think you're right - it must be a bug. I assume you mean that nothing happens when you try adding results of Extended/Advanced Search, since PB has never been able to add Instant Search results to Selection.

However, you can work around this by the following method:

  • Do your Advanced Search and get some results. The In Selection checkbox is disabled.
  • Click Edit > Add Search Results to Selection. Nothing happens except that the In Selection box has become enabled. This is a bug.
  • Check the In Selection box.
  • Click Edit > Add Search Results to Selection and this time the Selection Box will appear filled with Search Results.
Hope they fix this soon. The In Selection box is only intended to be a filter for Advanced Search results, not a way of enabling it.

ChrisCase, Thanks for the post. I just ran some tests to replicate this issue in PB 5.5.1.9 and was not able to. What is your OS? I tested for this issue on XP, Vista, Win 7, OS X and Ubuntu. If you have time, can you replicate the issue then send a copy of your output.log file to support@thebrain.com. If you are using Windows, you can find your output.log file in the "c:\Program Files\PersonalBrain" folder. Most often the log file will indicate what might be causing the issue.

Best regards,
Moe

I have to eat my words and say that it seems to be working fine today. The In Selection box starts off disabled, since there's no Selection Box open, but as soon as I click Edit > Add Search Results to Selection, it opens the Selection Box with the Search Results in it. Now the In Selection Box is enabled.

No idea why it didn't behave according to plan when I posted earlier; it hasn't misbehaved since.

Moe, you nsay:

Since purchasing PB,  I  have on about 4 occasions been asked to post either my zipped brain or a log file, and that has always been the end of it. No reply or help.  Is there reason to suppose that if I do it again the response will be any different?

I tried again.  Search finds 48 instances, in thoughts and on websites. Add search results to selection does nothing.  If I check the In Selection box,  the number of results goes down to 21.  After that, they can be added to the Selection.

Chris,

I've tried testing this in 5.5.2.1 as well and have not been able to replicate this issue.  I would be very interested in seeing the output.log file and will communicate back to you as soon as our engineers have reviewed the file and found a cause/problem/solution.

Thank you,
Matt
