Brain won't run on Win 8.1

Thanks...tried it.  No good though.  No change.  TheBrian is saying it is using about 65MB and has about 65MB available...that seems like a low amount of memory, especially because that option told it to use 320mb.

So, I completely uninstalled Java 7...then to test, I loaded TheBrain.   It loaded?  Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but I thought TheBrain requires Java?  If I completely uninstalled it, what is it using?  Was it ever using the latest Java 7?  How can I be sure?

Either way, the search indexing is the same, about 1 file per minute.

Random TheBrain.exe has stopped errors on closing still persist.

Brain won't run on Win 8.1
I've had the same problems with Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1 Pro with TheBrain 7 and 8.  Works fine on Windows 7.

I have the latest everything...TheBrain and Java.

TheBrain is unreliable on Windows 8/8.1 Pro for me.  It crashes frequently and then occasionally it gets totally corrupt and won't load, saying thebrain.exe stopped...

Uninstalling and reinstalling it does not work.  I too had to use Revo Uninstaller and remove all the other files that it was not uninstalling to get it to work again.

By doing that I came to find out that the culprit is TheBrain8Preferences.xml in the Users\account\AppData\Roaming\TheBrain directory.

I have made a backup of this file and every time it permanently crashes (~3 times per week) I need to overwrite this file with my backup.

This doesn't explain the random closing of the application every few hours with no error messages...

I also have the already reported SUPER SLOW search indexing...3 days in and my brain with 13,418 thoughts is at 53%.  Same Brain on the Mac version indexed in ~10 minutes.

Love to get some solid resolution on these issues...

Slowdown in TheBrain updates, bug fixes
TheBrain staff,

I have been using TheBrain software for over 4 years and have paid for every upgrade and even the WebBrain.  I have invested money, time and effort into this product and need to know what the future of the desktop version is so I can begin to transition from TheBrain if need be.

Please respond.

Patrick, we are now four months later and these issue persist for me. Have they been fixed? If not, when?

What are the specific operating systems and outlook versions that the software is thoroughly tested on and operates as advertised without issue or workarounds? Is there an official "supported versions" document posted somewhere?

When I ask as advertised and without issues or workarounds I am most specifically referring to the issues bmac clearly identified.

Thank you.

I have Outlook pointing to the redemption.dll file that resides in the file structure of The Brain's installation.

For Outlook 2010, I added it by going to (in Outlook)
File>Options>Add ins>Manage COM Add-ins>Go... >Add> ...and selected the redemption.dll file that (for my install) resides in C:\Program Files (x86)\TheBrain\bin

Hope that helps..

Unfortunately my Outlook plugins are not using redemption.dll and I am still having the issue.

I stand corrected!  I did not have any reference to the redemption.dll in Outlook, but when I added it from TB\bin as per your instructions...restarted Outlook...and like magic, I can drag and drop again!

Of course, when it fills in the Notes with the e-mail text, it is still all lower case -- which is quite annoying but not nearly as bad as not being able to drag to TB.

So TB engineers may want to focus on the infamous redemption.dll...and please fix the lower case thing!

Thanks!

Did you experience this issue with TheBrain 7.0.2.9? We released several updates in 7.0.3.0 and are attempting to determine if one of these is the cause. Please try installing it using the following link: http://www.thebrain.com/products/personalbrain/download/. Let us know if this resolves your issue.

Sorry ... I only moved to the Release Candidate from v6 at 7.0.3.0 because I thought it would be safe...

Yes, both processes are followed by *32.

Anything from TheBrain staff on this...

again, I reverted to TB 32-bit and Office 32-bit on a Win 7 64-bit PC...

Can't drag and drop from Outlook.

Thanks.

pthompson,

I completely uninstalled the 64-bit version of PB and re-installed the 32-bit (only one posted now) and the problem is still happening...

nothing can be dragged from Outlook 32-bit.

Is this a known issue now with PB 32-bit?

Thanks.

Can someone from the company comment as to if this is the final word on this?

If so, I will have to revert back to PB 6 and need to know how long it will be supported?

Sadly I'll have to find a new tool or process since tight outlook integration is critical to me and I'm unable to go back to a 32 it operating system.

Please say it is not so!

Thanks

I just installed TheBrain 7 (7.0.3.0) win7 64bit

I immediately noticed that drag and drop of Outlook 2010 32-bit is not working.  I tried all variations of drag & drop...CTRL+drag, CTRL+SHIFT+drag, and of course the regular drag...

I am running Java 6 update 31

Is this a known issue?

Thanks,
grs
Thought Attachment Sorting
Another question/problem...every time I open my brain, I have to reset my sort order on my thought attachments.

I set the thought window to sort descending on Modified and want it set that way permanently...

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
George

Attaching to Pinned Thoughts
About 50% of the time, if I drag a line to attach a thought to a pinned thought, it creates a pinned thought instead of attaching the two thoughts.

Is this just user error?  I have experienced this since 5.5 and when you are working quickly in the brain, it is quite annoying to have pins popping up and making me doubt the intended connection was made.

Thanks,
George

PB Slow w/ Periodic Freezing
PB 6.0.5.1 - Win 7

My brain is around 7500 thoughts and is about 1GB in BrainZip size...from what I see on the forums, this is not the largest of brains.

I use my brain all day and the longer it is running the slower it gets.  Finally it gets to the point where there is a 2-5 second delay on every click and certain brain options delay even longer.  At this point I have to close the brain and restart giving me another few hours of brain use before I have to close out once again.

I turned on memory in the title bar and noticed PB increases its memory over time and eventually PB says it has only 2mb free...the workstation has 4GB of RAM and has over 1.5GB free according to the system metrics.

Anybody experiencing something similar?

Regards,
George
