Beta expires i 6 days?!?
I'm getting warnings that the beta will expire in 6 days - will there be a new beta up before the expiration date?

I guess that I cannot roll back to any of the official ones...?!? It would be just terrible if I were to freeze up because of a beta time limit as all my work is tied up in my PB4.

What to do?

black theme plex printing bug
Hi,

Trying to print plex with the black theme enabled PB4  is properly reversing  plex to  black  font on a white background.  The  thought link lines are not reversed, though - and I have to manually change the color to black in order to get a good result - could this be changed?

cheers

Full Screen for presentation purposes?
Hi Harlan & Co.

I have tested PB4125 for osx  as a presentation  app -  and it seem to work  well! What I miss, though, is a real full screen feature - no pins, no menubar and no search/history. This would enable presentations in a professional way.

4125 inconsistant icon display
Matt,

Well, no... I happened to run my osx based brain on my xp workstation at work - and appearently this opening-and-closing in xp fixed the problem!

It seems, that when I create thoughts from mp3/mp4 files in osx they are randomly assigned an icon - and opening the brain up in xp "finalizes" the thoughts... does that make any sense to you?

Built in mp3 / mp4 player?
great with the considerations on the internal web browser - how about an internal  mp3/mp4 player - it is tiresome to have itunes barging in all the time - to be able to open mp3/mp4 files in background and on top of things view them in tools would be beautiful!

4123 import and icon display bug
on osx the import via shift+ctrl+drag file into plex deletes the file extension on *.mov files - the files gets imported alright, but without an extension - and is thus not recognizable by osx.

A manual rename operation with the .mov extension solves the problem, and a movie icon appears in the thought. When I repeat the import sequense with a second *.mov file then the icon of the newly imported movie disappears from the thought - why is that?  and is it posible to  control which icon to be displayed on the  thought in the plex? This would be especially practical when you have more than one attachment to a thought.

extended search capabilities
After installing the 4123 I cannot search in pdfs etc. Does the upgrade process overwrite the PB4 PRO extended search capabilities?

If so, where can I find the download?

speed issues: execution sequense of plex and tools
Hi Harlan and Al,

A Click option to display notes will help - and give plex processor priority as suggested earlier in this thread. Actually you could see it as the logical next step in the plex/tools relation: the "update tools on mouseover" option is joined by an "update tools on mousedown (or buttondown)" option.

The "view-only" is a very good idea, a feature I would use a lot if implemented. If there is a speed gain as a bonus, I'd go for it!

The maneuvering and wanderings in plex is a beautiful feature and it needs all the speed it can get - especially in the distant thought/expanded view modes.

thought arrange problem
Hi Harlan,

When will 4.1.2.2 be out for OSX?

Thank you for your dedicated work!

thought arrange problem
When the thought name is a number - fx. "982" and "1985", PB 4.1.2.1 does not arrange the thoughts  consistantly - you have to name the thought "0982" to get the arrange into a correct index. Furthermore, using negative numbers makes it worse.

Would it be possible to make a combined algorithm that arrange text thoughts as well as number thoughts correctly?

speed issues: execution sequense of plex and tools
Hi,

Here are some speed issues with a couple of ideas on how to solve the issues.

Thanks to the new feature of not updating tools on mouse over of thought you can now navigate the plex smoothely with mouseovers as long as you do not click on any thoughts.

When a thought is clicked the plex animation is initiated simultaneously with loading the tools for the selected thought. If the notes are more than a coule of lines the plex animation will temporarily freeze until the notes are loaded - and then resume the plex animation sequense.

Furthermore, when tools are not visible, PB4 is loading the tools anyhow on clicking a thought - again with temporary freezes as a result.

Ideas:

1. Give the plex animation priority over the loading of tools -  this will ensure  a smooth  PB experience.
2. When tools is not visible (fx. with the plex maximized) forget about loading the tools as they are not in play. When tools are activated then load the content for the active thought. This will enable smooth wanderings  in  plex when maximized -  especially  in the  distant thoughts /  expanded modes - a beatiful feature by the way!
3. Optimize the notes backbone - notes is very slow when it comes to editing text passages longer than a page. How come PB3 was much faster in this respect? I know that you may be did not plan for notes to be used for more than...notes - but the potential here for creating indexable text/thought relations is huge; in my view this could become one of the absolutely unique key features of PB.
4.  Maintain an index over the most recent  activated  thoughts and load the tools for these thoughts into memory on startup - again this would heighten the user experience.
