Search Function : Option to Exclude Notes and Attachments in the search result
Thanks Harlan for the prompt response!

Quote: Notes and attachments are always displayed after the other search results and display first. So they do not slow the response of search and are always separated out.

Good to know on how the logic works. I personally and many times get distracted by updates being done to "Notes and Attachments" section while I am trying to review list output for "Thoughts, Links, Labels" and might have turned off results for Notes and Attachments as a default and have them show up in certain cases if I had the option.

Quote: The sort order is prioritized based on where the search term appears within the match, how well it matches and how recently it was used.

The behavior of sort order seems to driven by algorithm but will be useful in multiple incidences if somehow user can change the behavior of the sort order.

Quote: If you only want to search a particular thought type, you can so do by selecting all thoughts of that type then searching only the selection. (A second checkbox appears for this purpose when a selection exists).

I was able to do a selection and further saw the checkbox "Selection Only". A good option. Found a better alternative. Activate thoughts by Types using menu option "Open the list of types to select one to activate" and further use the checkbox "Childwards only" while doing the search. From a end-user experience it does have multiple "Clicks" situation vs. being able to configure the behavior of Search functionality. I read the Search functionality is being further developed so if possible please see this as a feedback.

Thanks again!

Search Function : Option to Exclude Notes and Attachments in the search result
Possible the option to exclude "Notes and Attachments" from the Search result exists somewhere. I could not locate it. It will be nice to have an option available to exclude "Notes and Attachments" from search results in some scenarios and have a better search response time. Example below
2017-07-12_19-58-12.png

Also, it would great to assign a sort order to Thought Types and use that sort order to display the result in the search window.
Example : While looking for word, I may not want any URLs with that word appear on the top of search result but would want the sort order be driven by my priority managed through sort order of thought type.
Filter - Types ( Expand and Collapse Option)
It would be very nice to see a option to expand and collapse the list we see when attempting to filter thoughts by "Thought Type". It is useful in scenarios where "Thought Type" list is very long and navigation to thoughts down in the list can be cumbersome.

search in virtual folders
Just curious if argument of load while searching and indexing is still valid in 2012 with fast processors in every place...

I do feel that option of searching and indexing folder would be very helpful..and should be developed....and decision on using this function should be left to the user for opting or not..

Renaming a brain caused corruption of database
Thanks Zenrain,

I have my file folder intact...which is around 25 Gb...

Somewhere I am afraid ..the rename function did a overwrite...

So existing ME had only one thought...
And the one I was renaming had 4k thoughts...

Now File Name for my brain(which I was renaming) is intact...along with the folder...

But when I open the brain(which I was renaming) it opens up with only one thought as it was case with the original ME...

I am keeping my fingers crossed on the possibility of recreation of the brain database or if some service might have made a auto backup...

Would be waiting to hear from folks at TheBrain..

Thanks,

Mahesh
Renaming a brain caused corruption of database
I have brain file I have been working on for last 4-5 years...

Originally the name of the brain was long so I thought I should rename it to a shorter name allowing the brain folder also to be of smaller name and I avoiding a situation of long file names..

On the rename dialog box I renamed to "ME", coincidentally I had another brain in the same folder with name "ME" existing. I got a message the brain could not be renamed and I should close and restart the brain. When I did that, to my shock the my brain was "replaced" with the brain existing before...and it appeared as if I am opening existing "ME" brain and not the original brain I was renaming...

I am afraid..the software doesn't do critical back-ups and I might be at a point of loosing the connections made over the years....

I have ticket open on this...

Any help would be deeply appreciated..

Thanks,

Mahesh
Instant Search - Thought Attachment File Names
Another one, the Instant Search only helps you quickly find the any thoughts with keywords in the searchbox. How much would be a overhead of also including the names of the files stored as attachment to build the search index. This way you can to a an instant search on any attachments with a specific file names too.
Command - Copy Folder Location Path of a Thought
This might be minor feature request, but lately I found myself handicapped when I wanted to use the folder location of the thought folder to save a file from the web. Every time I had to use the command "open the thought folder" then copy the folder path before being able to save a file from the web to the thought folder.

Maybe another command could be added to the context menu of a thought and under "Copy Thought URL" which could be "Copy Thought Folder path."

Any takers? I could have posted this in the feature request portal of the "The Brain" but thought its better to check if I am missing anything in what I am attempting.
Corrupted Brain File - Attachments
Lately, I am finding a lot of attachments appearing randomly in different thoughts. Its strange that while you windows folder for thought, it has valid attachment. But on the "The Brain" .."Thought" table additional attachment appears from different thought.

Would appreciate a possible resolution or help on the issue.

Thanks,

Mahesh
F2 / Rename doesn't work
I just had updated my beta version to 6-b and found that at times the F2/Rename function doesn't work...
100% CPU usage
I had the similar observation...that somehow Java.exe always is taking up 50% or more cpu ...

Also in new beta release, PB icon which stays on screen during the auto hide mode suddenly disappears....you thinking if the PB got shut down or got closed where as you can still the PersonalBrain.exe files in Task Manager with Java.exe at 50%
PB Freezing on XP in auto-hide right
I also happen to bothered by these endless freezes....

Behavior..

- The window freezes..
- You have to kill the Process from Task Manager
- Java.exe takes up 50% of cpu usage

Below is a dump of a file with prefix hs_err_pid_xx.

Offline Viewing of URL line in Notes Windows
I am just curious if anyone else is aware of functionality if its possible or not.

While dropping an URL link to a thought why isn't the note should be populated with the Content of the page so the same could be used for offline viewing w/o the need to stay online...

I am sure it would be handy to a lot of people...

Totally agree with the request above...as Shift + direction key could help in control over navigating which direction...i.e. parent, child or sibling....
