I haven't yet installed Java 8 on any of my systems.

I'm used to TheBrain being a stable app, but I've been experiencing sporadic, non-reproducible crashes with even tiny brains, using different versions of TheBrain 8.
Crashes seem to have appeared with Java 1.7.0_45, but have persisted with 1.7.0.51.

Has anyone worked extensively with Java 1.8.0_xx ?

any feedback ?

thanks

OK I've just noticed 1.7.0_60 is just out, with tons of bugfixes to Hotspot et al.

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/2col/7u60-bugfixes-2202029.html

will see if it makes a difference. But I'd still like to know if anyone's using Java8

I am unhappy to report that java I've just had one of my "unexplained & unreproducible" crashes with java 1.7.0_60. Having now gone through 3 versions of Java, I suspect it is TheBrain.

But the log file yields nothing interesting.

anyhow, I'll update to Java 8 and post, for the fun.

Which OS are you using? On the off chance that you are on Linux ... I experienced similar issue which vanished once I downgraded to Java 6.

I've upgraded to 1.7.0_60, but no problems yet on our end.  Let us know if you experience any problems.

Thanks,

Seems like there are some exciting improvements in v.8 especially regarding performance: https://blogs.oracle.com/thejavatutorials/entry/learn_more_about_performance_and
My TBs on Slackware Linux and Windows 7 is very stable with no issues, but would like to try this out. [smile]

TheBrain 8.0.2.2 Slackware 14.2 KDE 4.10.3 Java 1.8 / (Windows 7)

Very interesting, I'd missed this page.
But reading through the stuff, I suspect the performance improvements will show more in a server environment (that is, with multiple JVMs instantiated), rather than within a single JVM.

Does TheBrain even use JavaFX, I wonder ?

Anyhow, I'll move to Java8 when I have some time.

TheBrain does not utilize JavaFX at all.
