Hello, I am getting this error when I try and open my brain from a latest Brain OSX Core version, when the original is stored on a Windows PC. I have a network drive connected from OSX and confirmed that it has read/write access. I can create files in the location.

"please make sure you do not already have this Brain open and try again"
"Details: The database is already in use by another process: org.hsqldb.persist...."

thanks!

Did this work before now?  Or is this the first time you've tried to open it?

Also, you can try copying the brain to the local Mac machine and try opening it there, just to figure out if it's the brain file itself or a network sort of issue.

Kimono,

Do make sure that the Brain isn't already open on another machine (back on the PC).  Brain files can only be opened one at a time.

If you continue to get the error message, please send us a copy of your Output.log file.  On the Mac, if you go to PersonalBrain in the Applications Directory and select SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS in the Finder window, you can find the output.log file in the Contents > Resources > App folder.

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks for your tips guys. I brain Zipped the brain and copied it to the Mac, works fine local.

Here's the log. Showing first successful local run, then failure at the bottom where Database name: /Volumes/v3/Workspace_brain/brain. It seems fairly fundamental , as it Brain.lck exists. Although, I cannot see this file on the Windows side of things. Is something keeping the brain open, like the indexing service or something?

rgs,
K

Kimono,

The PersonalBrain database requires creation of a lock file in order to open the file. If this file cannot be created, it will fail to open. It looks like this is what is happening in this case. Perhaps the Mac OS file access protocol to this location does not support the creation of exclusively locked files. PersonalBrain 4.2 uses a different underlying database technology and it may be worth trying out as it may behave differently.

Thanks,
Matt

thanks. Is 4.2 a beta download? I can't see it anywhere.

Is there any risk upgrading my brain to the new database format?

Kimono,

4.2 is technically still beta, but you can read what Harlan had to say about it here:

http://forums.thebrain.com/tool/post/thebrain/vpost?id=2416481

That being said, MAKE SURE you have a brainzip backup (ideally, multiple backups) of your brain before you undergo the conversion process, as the conversion is one-way only; there's no going back.

I might wait until it goes prod. I rely on Brain!  I tested the scenario using CIFS, SMB, AFP connections, same result, when trying to access a brain stored on either my Windows desktop or a Netware server running CIFS.
