The new linking is tantalizing, but not quite useful, as others have pointed out in this thread.

But it is also actually not functional for me: When I finally realized that the text in the note must be precisely the name of the thought, PB agreed to underline the text and paint it blue, like a link. But no amount of clicking on it, with or without modifier keys, makes anything happen.

What did I miss?

Warmly,
Joel

When you hold down the CTRL key, try *moving* the mouse over the hyperlinked thought and see if the cursor changes for you.

Thanks,

Alas, it does not, Matt. Tried it with Option, Command (I'm on a Mac), and the shifted variants. No joy.

Joel, I just tested this feature in PB 6.0.2.8 in Mac OS X and it is working correctly.

Are you using the latest release of PB 6 (version 6.0.2.8)? There was a bug which was recently corrected in version 6.0.2.5 which caused links to Thoughts from Notes not to work if there was additional formatting applied to the text before linking.

Thanks,
Moe

I must have been doing something wrong, because today things are working--by holding down the Option key and mousing over the link, the cursor turns into a hand, and does in fact link to the thought. Tried this with ones that didn't work yesterday. I haven't updated any software since yesterday, but I did restart; maybe that is a factor.

Thanks for checking into it.

It occurs to me that it would be nice to have the option to display links created in this way as visible links, too.

Warmly,
Joel

FYI, it wasn't announced in this thread at the time, but for a while now, you can link to any thought by copying it's Thought URL via right-click and then adding the hyperlink in notes. This eliminates the problem of duplicate thoughts, not-quite-the-same text, etcetera. Also, you can now link between different brains and you can even link to thoughts from outside of PB on Windows. (Yes, we are working on making this work on Mac OS X also.)

Is there a 6.0 pdf file yet?  It took me a few minutes to find out how to create a thought link and stumble on this thread.  As with others, I'm very much looking forward to getting out of the "single brain trap", either by cross-brain links or collaboration features such as sharing only limited portions of one's brain for syncing.

I didn't read every word in this thread, but one thing I didn't notice being mentioned was long thought names and the "select it" method.  Add that to your list of "doesn't work well".

As I've mentioned innumerable times elsewhere, the reason I'm forced to use long thought names in the first place is that the only terms in the Instant Search are thought name keywords.

Give me an "Instant Search Keywords" field for each thought (like "tags" before they were taken away to become "Tags") and I can shorten my thought names, making features such as the "select it" thought link work better.

Would this be solved if Instant Search could search thought Labels too? Then you could hide keywords there and Thought names could be shorter. I would really like to see this made possible.

Instant Search for labels too would be great. And a keyboard shortcut to show a thoughts label.
