At first, I was very confused, why I didn't see the Markdown behind the \*-characters.

So from the reference:
\* Escaped text

* Escaped text

Use \ to escape characters that would otherwise be interpretted as markdown formatting commands. In this example, the line would be a bulleted list if the backslash were not present.

This is ambiguous, because it says "use \ to escape characters", which could mean, multiple characters in a row, or that this is meant for escaping only individual characters at a time.
Also the example with the * looks very similar to how programming languages' commenting syntax.
The string "Escpaded text" made that impression even stronger.

So I figured that this was specifically something you use to escape/make visible all Markdown till the end of a line.
So maybe add some more examples and write that it escapes "single Markdown characters"?

Best case, if I had read this word for word, from the very beginning, instead of making a quick wrong assumption, I'd have noticed some confusion and had to still try it out.
However, I hit the worst case, making a wrong assumption and was about to yell here about a Markdown bug.

Also I tend to (perhaps too) quickly assume bugs, since some of the Markdown isn't documented and/or redundant:
would you fix or add === already?

David,

The backslash can be used to escape individual characters. I'll make a note to clarify.

Thank you,
Matt
