I think the ability to add thought and make it a sibling of the current one might add a small efficiency-gain.
Of course there is the possibly very hard question "Who should be the parent?", but I think for such an automatic mode the easiest answer would be the best: the single thought that was used to navigate to the current thought. That should take care of the obvious cases where one is consistently building a thought-network. In cases where a 'distant thought' gets activated (or Search was used) and consequently there is no obvious parent, this function should probably be disabled.
We'll be adding keyboard navigation of the plex shortly, which will make it easy to select a parent thought and then select the create child shortcut, so that should address this nicely.
