It appears that running the Orphan report in TheBrain causes it to freeze.

Tested on Windows 7.

Does it really or is the keyword here 'appear'?

It does take rather long though without any indication something is going on. About a 7 seconds on my main Brain which is not that big, only 5380 thoughts. And I have a new and fast machine so that's not a bottleneck in any way.

A progress indicator would be useful, something like: "520 of 34014 thoughts processed"

Oh, sorry. Missed the fact you were using TB7, not PB6.
Disregard my previous post at will.

Thanks Zen for reporting.  I haven't been able to duplicate this one yet.  Are you seeing it consistently? Any additional steps to re-produce, please let us know.  Also, a copy of the output.log files after the crash may be helpful.

Thanks,
Matt

Yes, I've done it twice in a row. I'll verify it occurs after a restart in a bit.

I did send an output.log to the support e-mail and it references this post.

Same here.

It is medidating since 30 minutes.

Has no reaction across the whole TheBrain Window.

Does not even react on 'close window'.

Had to kill it by task manager.

Restart takes a long time now.

Will not open this brain any more.

What can I do now?

Even a restart of the whole system does not bring it to life. 'Opening' is spinning since minutes (takes two seconds normally).

The killed Process is living as a zombie after minutes and uses some CPU. java.exe is still busy too.

Update:

Finally it is running again: after killing TheBrain *and* java.exe it started again.

... Furthermore I think TheBrain is unique

Yes, I have the same experience as Hannes, except it has always re-started after killing the task. Also, when this is occurring TheBrain uses about 50% of the processor.
It must be thinking vewwy vewwy hawd.

Edit: This is on a 5,800 thought brain. I tried the database overhaul task and although it found some stuff (around 110 .html files were generated), it didn't resolve the orphan thought report freeze.
But my database is now overhauled, so that's a plus.

I still haven't duplicated this one, despite my many efforts, but I'll be sending this info on to our engineers for their review with your notes and feedback.

Thanks everyone,
Matt
