I've just imported a small part of my massive OneNote Notebook collection. OneNote uses a HIDDEN file with the name "OneNote Table Of Contents.onetoc2" for what the names suggests. That file is shown as an attachment, even though it's hidden.

I want a preference checkbox to change this behavior to HIDE files which are hidden in the thought folder!

If you are using version 5.5 you may try Preferences > Advanced and check the Hide Temporary Files in Thought Folders box.

Darn!! That one seemed such a good one, but now that I've taken a look I know it was checked the hole time. It probably uses a different logic/algorithm.

The release notes for 5.5. 0.0. say that his was fixed (and it is working for me)
If you are using 5.5 beta, you should contact support@thebrain.com and tell'em about it. Make sure to mention your version-details as well as the windows-version you are using...

P.S: I'd suggest to post these things here first, because you will quickly user up your votes on uservoice otherwise.

thnx for your help , I appreciate  your enthusiasm. This means the feature actually does exist and should work and that the fact that it doesn't indicate that it's a bug. I'll post on the beta forum and cross-link.

And don't worry about my uservoice votes. I can withdraw my vote after creating the bug report. But I choose to assign1 vote to show my interest in the matter. This way the issue can be found no matter where you look.

This means your suggestion should've worked ! And the fact that it didn't on my machine indicates it's a bug which I've posted here:

thnx dyslucksia for sharing your thread.

For those who haven't read it, it's a talk about the motivations behind this feature.

The fact remains that it doesn't function in 5.5.0.8-b which is why this bug report here: http://forums.thebrain.com/post?id=3682134

And I want it to function.

As of 5.5.0.9-b it still doesn't function, which is why this bug report here: http://forums.thebrain.com/post?id=3682134

A temporary file is not the same as a hidden file.

But it would be useful to be able to turn on the ability to HIDE hidden files in the P&A pane. More options, more users happy, or something like that.

I agree. But that's how the feature been set up before it broke, check the release notes on 5.5.0.0-b. I'll be satisfied if they fix it first before splitting to two separate checkboxes.

You know that the GUI designer will be struggeling with the preferences space. And they want to keep it accessible to novice users. Otherwise it gets dawnting and even scary. I don't mind. I love more possibilites. But I don't mind hidding hidden and temps all the time. Temps are never intresting, i think. And if you want to see a hidden file, then unhide it. Well, that's my 2 cents.

In my own experience, the only things that prove daunting to novice users are a manual way past its use-by date, cryptic release notes and a forum that can take forever to search.
