With 6046 instant search activity is resulting in brain lockup sometimes for 30 seconds or more. Occassionally this is also associated with full on hard disk activity. Happening about 10% of the time but naturally extremely noticable.

Jim, Thanks for posting . Can you update to 6.0.4.8 to see if the problem persists. If it does, please post a copy of your output.log file after the problem occurs. Hopefully it will contain a further explanation of what is going on. In the mean time, I will run some tests to see if I can reproduce the problem in 6.0.4.8.

Thanks,
Moe

Just as a reminder this issue occurs on a daily basis even with 6064. Will try and remember to send you an output log file after a particular nasty one.

Jim

Hey Jim,

We've have noticed this too in a few builds. We've have reviewed the output.log and don't see anything that show any errors or anything unusual either.

It's almost like the Java vm has been swapped out of memory and needs to swap back in... (wild guess .

It doesn't happen all the time, just when your in a hurry looking for something and it takes a long, long time for it to activate the search results.

Thanks for that feedback Pat, good to know it's not just mine displaying this behavior. It almost always happens when first bringing the computer out of sleep and then intermittently throughout the day. Invariably it's the times i've pulled my computer from my bag and am proudly about to backup some line of wetware thoughts in a discussion by reference to my PB thoughts. Too many times PB sits there and embarrassingly freezes for whole minutes. The behavior is almost identical to the freezes that occured last year when activating tag thoughts. It seems like there's still a gremlin in the works somewhere which REALLY needs attention.

I need my system to be as fast as my thinking (not asking for much actually ) so would appreciate getting this issue pinned down and blasted once and for all.

thanks

Jim

So far 6067 search index is performing very rapidly on a brain with 70k+ thoughts. After a day haven't experienced a single latch-up so this is encouraging.

I think Harlan and the team deserve our thanks for adding such a rich variety of features and capabilities into PB, mostly in response to our insatiable requests! Likewise many thanks for all the recent extra efforts made to correspondingly consolidate performance back to par.

Thanks!

Spoke a bit too soon The latch-ups don't appear to be happening normally now which is great, but i notice they still occured just now at a presentation in presentation mode. Hopefully this freeze can be eliminated too.

thanks

I'm sorry to report that 6070 is suffering extensive latchups both on instant search and on new thought creation for large brain. Brain and system specs attached.

Hi Jim, Can you post or send a copy of your output.log file to support@thebrain.com referencing this post. That way I can have our engineers check it for clues which may reveal the lag you are experiencing and hopefully provide a patch in an upcoming release .

Thanks,
Moe

Thanks to support's review my brain had an indexing error. File > Utilities > Rebuild Instant Activation Index seems to have solved the problem completely.

I haven't seen instant activate perform this rapidly for quite a while. My dumb, I should have spotted this utility earlier.

Thanks.

Jim
