XOver

Hi team,

Working from behind a proxy still does not work:

 at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source)
Failure authenticating with NTLM <any realm>@anisaserver.nowhere.com:8080
1503270 [AWT-EventQueue-1] ERROR com.thebrain.personal.a.c.h - Exception reading from server -
java.io.IOException: Stream closed

Tried all the suggestions regarding proxy use to no avail.

Do you have any other ideas?

TIA

X-Over

EDIT: I realized too late that this is not the correct forum

Hi X-Over,

I have just about the world's worst company proxy ... and eventually got 7.0.3.8+ working.  Prior to that I could authenticate and compare OK, it would just never upload the .zip changes.

NTLM authenticating usually refers to the proxy itself, are you sure the domain / user / port / pass is all OK? Does it work in another program (other than a browser)?

Failing all that you can setup a localhost NTLM Authorization Proxy Server cntlm http://cntlm.sourceforge.net/ hash your password and then replace the proxy with localhost: port.  This works really well for programs that don't support domain authentication.  However TB works fine for me without it?

TB support has some java proxy troubleshooting tools, you might be best emailing them directly.

Good luck.

Hi Shinyplastic,

thanks for your input. I'm behind an ISA server and used the same proxy settings as in my dropbox config (doublechecked).

I gave CNTLM a try but could not get it to work.

Currently I don't have enough time to delve deeper into the issue, but when I find something I'll post it here.

Regards

X-Over

Hello Götz,

Thanks for posting.  If you would like to send a copy of your output.log to support@thebrain.com along with some info regarding the steps you have already taken to troubleshoot your proxy, we would be happy to take a look.

Hi,

today I change the server from webbrain.com to http://webbrain.com and TheBrain works behind a proxy ! (activate and sync with webbrain)

Version 7.0.4.0

I have been looking into this issue a little closer.

My corporate proxy did not allow my desktop client to connect to the cloud.  I have been working around this by installing an http proxy (Fiddler in my case) and by configuring it as the proxy in the desktop client (Fiddler shows up as 127.0.0.1 and port 8888), all of this in conjunction with the latest release (7.0.4.1).

Observing the http traces, I suspect this has to do with the fact that theBrain is still using Jakarta Commons´ HttpClient.  Although I did not check with IT, I suspect that the corporate firewall might tolerate usual http clients like Mozilla and WebKit, but does not like an "exotic" (and in fact deprecated) http client like Jakarta Commons (an old Apache project).

I would encourage theBrain to look a little further into this issue and consider using a more modern http client.

Hello,

For those who were interested, I checked in with our engineering team and was informed all of the web downloading uses a different user agent in the upcoming 7.1 release.

Hi,

I´m having the same problem here.

"Failure authenticating with NTLM"

So, only in the 7.1 version this will be solved ?

Thanks

Rubens,

I made this post as a response to alias de paljas post.  The issue you are describing is unrelated.  TheBrain 7 can connect via proxy in its current form.  If you are having issues connecting and would like for us to help you troubleshoot, please send an email to support@thebrain.com.

Thanks.
