Yeah, that's a good point Cerebrum. Although, to bring it to a personal level, I haven't updated my TheBrain User KnowledgeBase brain since I started using TheBrain 9. 
Not because of lack of interest, but out of the sheer amount of work keeping up with the changes and re-re-re organizing things would entail. 

And the documentation I wasn't creating wasn't official, so didn't have to fit within specific guidelines. 😱

Hi,

We are rapidly changing the software as we approach the full release. As far as documentation, that will not begin until we have finalized the features and functions. 

I have my own personal list of quick fixes for common issues that I or users run into often. There have been more than a few times that I have had to change the set of instructions.

For me this is not an issue because it is literally my job to keep track of these changes. If we were to release documentation that applies to some feature or function that has changed, that would cause more harm than good.

FWIW, I have an entire test brain dedicated to TB9 documenting select bugs, feature requests, hints & tips, how-to instructions, etc. -- and I keep updating it as things change and I learn more.

As an ex-software developer, I agree that user documentation should be part of product development, for the use of customers and developers alike. Changes to product functionality should therefore involve changes to user documentation; it's part of the product and its development process as much as are comments in the code. 

A common problem in software development is the over-familiarity of the developers with the product functionality - what seems obvious and second-nature to someone who works on the product every day may be totally obscure to a first-time user - or someone like me, upgrading to a completely rewritten version. We used to test out every new function and UI change in our software with people to whom it would be unfamiliar (e.g. secretaries, receptionists, certain managers, etc.) to ensure it was as clear and obvious as it could be.

That way we avoided situations such as I recently encountered when trying to search my brain for a URL attachment, where I had to ask on these forums, and discovered that it was done via the report function. Intuitive? not to me.

This is incredibly short sighted and uncustomer friendly.

1.The software has already failed the if it needs a manual it's wrong test as I am spending hours trying to find how to do something which I recall was available in the old manual (which I wished I had kept)
2.It evolves too quickly for us to keep it up to date is as dumb as my developers telling me they don't need to do documentation anymore as it is not agile - we still need reference sometimes. Hire someone to do so
3.No one reads the manual but they do use it for reference when they want to know how do I??

Tips mean you feed me the features on your timetable and order not mine - at least give me all of them in one document I can just use search on

Videos are useless for searching - and I really do not want to drone through videos to find the answer to my question. The videos are too long winded, too slow speaking and not indexed.

I am after being a happy customer for years now deeply frustrated having spent over an hour looking for my answer.

Here's an example: How do I find out the keyboard shortcut for selecting Types in Thought Properties?

1. At some point, the TB9 developers added the ability to select Types in Thought Properties using a keyboard shortcut. They must have documented this feature somewhere.
2. Someone decided to create a web page with a list of video tutorials and create a link to that page from the top website menu Support, then Tutorials.
3. Someone created the video Keyboard Shortcuts for Types and Tags.
4. Someone added the video to the list of tutorials, along with this text: "Using the keyboard to create and assign types and tags is fast and efficient."

After I somehow stumbled upon the video, I had to play it to find out the keyboard shortcut. The answer appears after 34 seconds: Ctrl-E in the Windows version. Really?? Why not show the shortcut in the description of the video? In any case, I need a list of keyboard shortcuts, not a video. That would be "fast and efficient".

If you go to:
(Windows) Options -> Preferences and select the Keyboard tab.
(Mac) TheBrain -> Preferences and select the Keyboard tab.

You can see all the define / overridden keyboard shortcuts.

I didn't like the Ctrl-E so I made mine Ctrl-J and Command-J on my Mac.
That way I don't have to remember different keyboard combinations on different platforms (I've done that for a few that I use over and over)

I am extremely glad to know written documentation is now in the works. Many users (myself included) will appreciate and use this valuable resource.

I also understand the rationale for choosing to have development of the manual follow the development of the software. While it may be frustrating for some of us now not have a manual in hand, I am grateful to have the video tutorials and the "how to" support provided in this forum to "tide me over" until the manual is (eventually) available.

When they introduce a new feature (What's New), they simultaneously create or update the relevant Help topic, e.g. Duration field type.
