trying to list them all out (more than in the video, but I think the video helps demonstrate where I'm coming from):

1. make keystroke input automatically search, instead of being ignored
2. remember last opened preference-tab and start there
3. remember command-selection as well as collapse state of all command-categories
4. make arrow keys collapse and scroll thru the entries in the list (cause really, that's exactly what arrow keys normally do)
5. make the preference-window resizable, so that I can see more commands at once
(at the moment I can't even see all of the entries of some of the larger categories)
6. make it obvious which key-combos are(not) legal, perhaps just add this stuff into the manual already (examples: unexpected illegal: ctrl+alt+shift+f, unexpected legal: modifier+arrow-keys)
7. some other obvious stuff that the other things imply

As I believe you posted elsewhere, ctrl+alt+shift+F is disabled due to a bug in Windows 10.

All of the other combos you list work correctly. I would guess you are running some other third party software that is preventing their use in TheBrain.

retesting all of them with all programs that could possibly be interfering disabled.

You're right, all of them work now, except for
ctrl+alt+m (ctrl+alt+shift+f of course).
Presumbably either Windows magnifier or Nvidia Shadow Play could be using it.
https://superuser.com/questions/1282799/what-is-preventing-ctrl-alt-m-from-reaching-intellij-on-windows-10
But I killed Nvidia from the tray and I don't think I have ShadowPlay.
I don't use magnifier. I activiely disabled it and it still persists.

Didn't know how much background programs stole from me, but I always have a lot of them on. Will look into freeing them.
This might be something nice to add to the tutorial.
Phrased like
"Q: what to do when a shortcut doesn't work?"
"A: check whether a background program of yours is blocking it here:

"
