In expanded view, dragging an individual thought to a different position on the screen releases that thought from the automatic positioning algorithm. For example, after entering expanded view, first drag any thought to a new position and then move its parent and notice that the repositioned thought stays put while the other, undragged thoughs are automatically repositioned when their parent is moved.

Clicking the "button" (or knob) on the repositioned thought reconnects the thought to the automatic positioning algorithm so that, in effect, the thought is no longer pinned to the screen.
